Math for Games Quest, Edition 1
A downloadable tool
Try World 1 free in your browser first: https://thelearningquests.itch.io/math-for-games-sample
The math behind movement, aiming and loot, without the panic. One idea at a time, and every world ends with something you build in Unreal.
What's inside
- 38 quests across 8 worlds, each with step-by-step instructions, a clear "done when" check, and tips for when you get stuck
- A boss project at the end of every world that uses everything you just learned (8 in total)
- XP, levels, badges and streaks, plus target dates for every quest based on the pace you pick
- Comes with a vector lab: drag vectors around and watch the numbers update
- Walkthroughs you can collapse once you don't need the hand-holding
The worlds
- W1 Number Sense: Know your units, Clamp it, Turn anything into 0 to 1, Absolute value. Boss: Health Bar Math.
- W2 Vectors: Position vs direction, From A to B, How far away?, Unit vectors, Move at a steady speed. Boss: Chaser.
- W3 The Dot Product: What dot means, In front or behind?, Vision cone. Boss: Guard's Eyes.
- W4 Angles & Trig: Degrees and radians, Bob up and down, Walk in a circle, Angle to a target. Boss: Orbiting Drone.
- W5 Smooth Motion: Lerp, Easing, Interp To, Curves. Boss: Smooth Camera.
- W6 Randomness: Random in a range, Weighted random, Seeds. Boss: Loot Chest.
- W7 3D Space: Local vs world space, Forward, right, up, Left or right?, Cross product. Boss: Smart Turret.
- W8 Motion & Gravity: Velocity, Gravity, Jump arcs. Boss: Landing Predictor.
What you need
Unreal Engine 5 (free) for the boss projects. It starts from the basics: ranges, clamping and what a vector actually is.
How it works
It's one HTML file. Double-click it and it opens in your browser. No account, no install, no subscription, and it works offline. Progress saves in your browser, and a save code in Settings lets you back it up or move it to another computer.
The vector lab is a simplified example for trying ideas. The actual quests happen in Unreal Engine.
